Paul: I wrote it in Cavendish Avenue on the harmonium I have in the dining room there.

My Aunty Jin and Uncle Harry and a couple of relatives were staying

and they were in the living room just across the hall,

so I just went to the dining room

and spent a few hours with the door open with them listening.

And I suppose because of the family atmosphere

Your Mother Should Know came in.

It’s a very music-hall kind of thing, probably influenced

by the fact that my Aunty Jin was in the house.

Paul: “Fool on the Hill” era mía y creo que la escribí por alguien como Maharishi.
Sus detractores lo llamaban “tonto” (fool).
No era tomado en serio por su risita tonta …
Yo estaba al piano en casa de mi padre en Liverpool

tocando un acorde de Re sexta y compuse “The Fool on the Hill.

Paul: Me fui a Francia y una mañana grabé “Fool on the hill” con un par de amigos.

Sabíamos que íbamos contra corriente

y que estábamos rodando una película extravagante y tonta,

pero lo cierto es que hay muy pocas partes lamentables.

 

Paul aprendió a tocar la flauta dulce en casa de sus futuros suegros: los Asher

 

Después, en una sesión de grabación de With a Little Help from My Friends,

Paul la tocó para John Lennon, y éste le dijo que la escribiera.

Paul no lo hizo, estaba seguro de que no la olvidaría!

Una rara canción instrumental de los Beatles  (la primera desde «Cry for a Shadow» en 1961), 
aunque pueden oírse palabras al final,

es la primera canción en ser acreditada a los 4 miembros de la banda, 
con los créditos de «Lennon/McCartney/Harrison/Starkey»

(otra sería «Dig It» del álbum «Let It Be»). 
                              

Paul McCartney: Flying was an instrumental that we needed for Magical Mystery Tour

so in the studio one night I suggested to the guys that we made something up.

I said, ‘We can keep it very very simple, we can make it a twelve-bar blues.

We need a little bit of a theme and a little bit of a backing.’ I wrote the melody.

The only thing to warrant it as a song is basically the melody,

otherwise it’s just a nice twelve-bar backing thing.

It’s played on the Mellotron, on a trombone setting.

It’s credited to all four, which is how you would credit a non-song.

El nombre de la canción sale de una calle real de Hollywood Hills
permite ver una panorámica de Hollywood

y gran parte de la Cuenca de Los Ángeles.

 

En agosto de 1967 George se fue a Los Ángeles y alquiló una casa

en la Calle Blue Jay / Calle de los arrendajos azules
Derek Taylor que se iba a reunir con él se retrasó

y compuso la canción para mantenerse despierto.

 

Harrison: “Derek Taylor había llamado.
Telefoneó para decir que llegaría tarde.
Le conté que la casa estaba en Blue Jay Way.

Dijo que la podría encontrar bien,

que siempre podía preguntar a un policía.
Así que esperé y esperé.

Me sentía realmente exhausto por el vuelo,

pero no me quería ir a dormir hasta que él llegara.
Estaba nublado y se hacía cada vez más tarde.

Para mantenerme despierto, sólo como un juego

para pasar el tiempo mientras esperaba,
escribí una canción sobre esperarle en Blue Jay Way.

Había un pequeño órgano Hammond en un esquina de la casa

del que no me había percatado hasta entonces…
así que me metí en faena y la canción surgió.”

Un juego de palabras, que se repite una y otra vez en la canción «Roll up, roll up for the magical mystery tour!», (enrólate, enrólate en un viaje mágico misterioso!

En términos generales, es una de las composiciones más simples,

directas de las canciones Beatles y cumplen su función perfectamente
